Texas Large Church Forum – Day One
Posted in: UncategorizedHad a great time today with IT guys from the Dallas and Austin areas. We covered lots of ground today discussing topics such as Vista and Office 2007 rollouts, Exchange 2007, Data Management, Scripting, Help desk applications, open source apps, and backup strategies. We finished our morning with a lively discussion about the Mac on the corporate network. There are two sides to this debate, but one thing is for sure, the mac is a big player in all of our worlds, and that won’t go away any time soon. Whew. We needed a break for lunch.
After lunch we dove into Enterprise Wireless, Virtual Servers, Antivirus products (oddly, we are all using different products, a far cry from the “All-Symantec-All-The-Time” of the past). We finished our day out with Email policy, non-profit pricing vendors, policies, and open source.
One of my personal take-aways today is that none of us really feel good about our use of volunteers. We all want for people to serve in their areas of giftedness, but none of us have a great solution. We know that the key to having great volunteers startsby recruiting good leaders. That is a work in process, but I am thankful for the leadership team I have in place today. Finally, we talked through what Church IT looks like five years from now. Lots of stuff to think about. we’ll continue our discussion tomorrow.
